Trailer Towing Training Provided

Have You Passed Your Standard
Car Driving Test After 1st January 1997?
Are You Looking To Tow
Box Trailers, Caravans, Flatbed Trailers, Horse Boxes or Boat Trailers?
If so you are required by law
to take another the B+E car and trailer test in order to tow trailers
where the gross weight of the vehicle and trailer is above 3500Kg
(without trailer) and 4250Kg (inclusive of trailer).
A driver without a B+E licence
can tow a trailer, if the combination of the vehicle and trailer
is less than 3500kg and gross weight of the trailer is less than
the un-laden weight of the towing vehicle. A driver who has passed
their test after 1997 can tow a trailer with a gross weight of around
1.5 tons, as long as the towing vehicle and trailer are closely
matched. If the conditions aren't met exactly it can result in the
driver being unlicensed and uninsured which could carry a maximum
of 9 penalty points and a fine of up to £1000, and in some
cases maybe even a ban. Also if you were to be involved in an accident,
as you are legally uninsured, you could find yourself in serious
trouble.
Legalities aside, we strongly
recommend these courses for your own peace of mind, even if you
have a pre-1997 driving license. Towing a trailer of any description
is very different to just driving a standard vehicle and there are
more considerations that you need to be aware of. At Chevron Driving
School we believe that safety is paramount and anything that can
be done to improve this is of utmost important.
Our trailer towing training
courses are designed to give you the confidence and extra skills
required to tow any type of trailer safely.
All of Chevron
Driving Schools instructors have been trained "In-House".
